Sun Up Ridge Wall - Benefiting Programs

There are presently two programs in the proposal for veterans. The Disabled American Veterans van program, which is currently funded by Colorado DAV, transports veterans to hospitals in Cheyenne and Sheridan and a Boy Scout Venturing Troop, consisting of students from fourteen to eighteen years of age which will perform burial services for veterans in Central Wyoming by presenting a military presence as well as a flag and ceremonial detail for the City of Casper.

The Marine Corps League in Casper is forming the Venturing group; St. Patrick’s Catholic Church will sponsor it; the Knights of Columbus will run it; and the Marine Corps League will train it. St. Patrick’s Church will provide a meeting and training place and the Church secretary will provide communication.

The unit is called, The Platte River Detachment of Marines, Oregon Trail Veteran’s Cemetery. They will wear the Civil War uniforms and emblem of the Marine Corps. In charge is a platoon leader; with the platoon of four squads; four squad leaders; under the squad leader is ten to fourteen Marines to a squad; each squad being divided into morning and afternoon fire team duties; each squad being assigned a week of the month; and each fire team having a firing squad, one bugler and one fire team leader. In this manner students will not be absent from school to the detriment of their studies. This unit is our primary program for funds.
